Radford Public Safety Building
Thompson & Litton, Inc (T&L) was selected by the City of Radford to provide Architectural/Engineering services for the Radford Public Safety Building. T&L’s services included space needs assessments, programming, full service design, bidding and construction contract administration for the renovation and adaptive reuse of the former box factory to accommodate police facilities and operations, as well as other municipal functions.
A sampling of project highlights include the following:
- The orginial structure was a block and brick structure previously utilized as the former Old Colony Box Factory;
- The project faciliated the consolidation of several Departments in one central location (Police, Dispatch Center, E-911 Center, and other municipal functions)
- E-911 Center provides many functions including for 911 operations, after-hours public interface, security control for the municipal facility, monitoring all building cameras, access control systems, and the secure perimeter traffic gate;
- The Dispatch Center was designed to accommodate a four console layout with the ability to expand to six consoles in the future.
On a day-to-day basis, the space serves the City as their Council Chambers and many other functions including Police, City Management, Finance, Human Resources, Public Information, Engineering, Economic Development, Zoning, Building Offical, and others); however, in the event of a major emergency, the space transforms into a fully integrated and progressive EOC.
