T&L was selected by CGI, a global software development company, to provide professional planning, architectural and engineering services for a new single story office facility located in the Russell Regional Business & Technology Park in Lebanon, Virginia.

Project highlights include:

  • Envisioned to serve as model for other such facilities, T&L’s A/E services for the project consisted of the programming, design, bidding assistance, and construction administration of an office facility for approximately 300 new employees.
  • The office design was based on a predominantly open concept layout with some enclosed support areas for meeting rooms, technical areas, and other specialized needs.

Roanoke County DSS Building

Roanoke County DSS Building

In 2011, Roanoke County retained Thompson & Litton (T&L) to provide a Needs Assessment for the expansion of the Roanoke County Department of Social Services (DSS) area within the Salem Bank and Trust Building located in downtown Salem, Virginia. The study was performed to determine the suitability of the Salem Bank and Trust Building for use by the DSS to expand and continue its operations or to relocate elsewhere.

Upon completion of the report, T&L was retained by the County to provide architectural, engineering and interior design services related to the long-term utilization of the building.

Project highlights include the following:

  • Since the building had to remain occupied during construction, the project was completed in two (2) phases;
  • Phase I Scope of Work: Roof replacement, HVAC and telecommunications structural systems, parking lot rehabilitation and renovations to the 5th floor of the building;
  • Phase II Scope of Work: Renovations to the remaining four (4) floors of the building as well as both elevators. 
  • This phased approach for construction was critical as the completed fifth floor was utilized as swing space for relocation of displaced employees from the other four floors.

T&L, in association with BurWil Construction, was commissioned to provide comprehensive Architectural, Engineering, and surveying services related to the design and construction of a new corporate headquarters for Alpha Natural Resources. The new headquarters is located in Bristol’s new Sugar Hollow Business Complex in Bristol, Virginia. The project was developed by Steve Johnson of Johnson Commerical Development.

A sampling of project highlights include the following:

  • New 5 story structure to maximize VUSBC, Type IIA construction;
  • Designed for future subdivision of floors for possible future tenants;
  • Tier III data center;
  • Emergency generators;
  • Fire command center;
  • Two tiered training theaters;
  • Helipad;
  • Cafeteria and wellness facilities;
  • Project achieve LEED Silver Designation from the Green Building Certification Institute; and
  • The project won the Associated Contractors of America Award for Architectural Project of the Year in 2011.

Thompson & Litton (T&L) was selected by Stone Mountain Health Services to provide professional architectural and engineering services related to the planning, design, and construction of a Family Health Center in Jonesville, Virginia.

Project highlights for the new medical service area, business office, and administrative office spaces include the following:

  • Medical services area includes 25 exam rooms, 6 physician offices, and 2 behavior health offices;
  • Support services to the medical clinic includes medical lab, x-ray suite, ultra-sound suite, procedure room, central nurse’s station including write-up area and patient vital stations, and a separate covered ambulance entrance;
  • Administrative offices are all contained in a separate building wing; and
  • A business office is located adjacent to the main public lobby/waiting area includes staff work areas,both open plan and office style, a transcription area, pharmacy connect and patient interview and checkout stations.

The project was funded 100% by the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Highlands Community Services – Center for Behavioral Health desired to consolidate their eleven county-wide locations into one centralized facility, for the convenience of their clients.Thompson & Litton was retained by Highlands Community Services to provide professional architectural and engineering services for the design and construction of a new centralized Community Service Facility located in Abingdon, VA.

Project highlights include:

  • The facility is a two-story, steel framed structure with masonry veneer exterior walls, an EPDM roof, and a semicircular glass curtain wall at the front of the building;
  • The new facility includes space for Care Coordination, Day Support, Youth and Family Services, Substance Abuse Services, Community Counseling and Administration.
  • The site is a 6 acre parcel located in the professional medical/business park known as “The Campus” in the northeast section of Washington County;
