City of Radford High School Baseball Field
T&L provided Designer-Led, Design-Build services to the Radford High School Foundation for a multi-phased development of a new Municipal Baseball Facility in Radford, VA.
The undeveloped 5.8-acre parcel was a former landfill site owned by the city of Radford. Planning was to allow for a multi-phased undertaking as funds became available. To date, Phases 1A and 1B have been completed in 2007 and 2008 respectively. An additional infield drainage system was added in 2011. Phase 2 is for installation of a lighting system for night competitions and Phase 3 will include formal concessions, ticket booth, press box and permanent seating.
Facility highlights include:
- 90’ diamond with grass infield designed to major league dimensions with 330’ down the lines and 400’ at centerfield;
- Complete with concrete dugouts, restrooms, and spectator seating platform with metal bleachers; and
- Automatic field irrigation system, bullpens, batting cage, and digital scoreboard.
The facility is considered to be one of the finest high school fields in the state.
The facility serves as the home field for the Radford High School Bobcat Varsity and Junior Varsity teams, and local youth-league teams. The Radford Municipal Baseball Field has also been host to college club baseball, serving Radford University, Virginia Tech and New River Community College. In addition, the field has been chosen to host showcase tournaments, attracting teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and beyond.
